Benjamin Bowles - Director

Benjamin's interest in fencing history began in 2005 with the Humboldt State University Fencing Club. He tasked himself with creating a history of the Club and completed the Instructor and Article Archive of Fencing at Humboldt State University, now in the non-circulating collection of the HSU Library. in 2009 he established Benjamin Arms to produces accurate reproductions of 19th century fencing equipment, wholly directed by his research on the equipment of that time. In 2017 he co-curated the 19th Century Fencing Weapons & Memorabilia Exhibition in New York City that showcased the extent that fencing as a motif permeated the material culture of the late 19th century. After this exhibition he felt the need for a permanent digital collection of these objects and created Fencing Arms & Artifacts as its first director in 2018.
